Terminology
Data traffic
When you open a website, the contents of that page is copied to your computer. After it's copied to your computer, it will be displayed in your webbrowser. The amount of data being copied from the server containing the website to your computer is called data traffic. Most hosting-providers give limited data-traffic to their customers. When the limit is exceeded, the person or company owning the website has to pay extra for the exceeded data traffic.
Domain name
A domain name is the address where you can find a website. A website is placed on a server with a specific numeric address, called an ip address. When a domain name is registered by it's new owner, the owner will connect this domain name to an ip address. Now people can access the website by simply typing the domain name in their browser. Without domain names, people would have to memorize server ip addresses in order to revisit a certain website.
Device Drivers
A Device Driver is a small piece of software that allows computer software and operating systems to interact with the computer's hardware. Without a correct driver, the computer simply does not know how to talk to it's hardware. Some operating systems like Microsoft Windows already have a large driver library built-in. This allows for easy installation of some devices. But sometimes it's better to use the manufacturer's installation disc because the manufacturer's driver can give you better performance or even enhanced options.
Operating System
An Operating System is a complicated piece of software that allows a user to work with a computer. It functions as an intermediary between the computer's hardware and the user's software. Most Operating Systems come with a GUI, a Graphical User Interface, which basically means you don't have to send textual commands to the computer, but can simply use your mouse to send the computer commands. An example of this: Opening a text-editor can simply be done by (double-)clicking the icon on your desktop. Without a GUI you would have to give the computer this command textually, for examply: notepad.exe. Without a GUI you would also have to remember a lot of computer commands or at least know how to look them up and how to use them. Operating Systems usually come with some built-in programs like a calculator, simple text-editor and some simple games.
Search Engines
Search Engines are websites with large databases of websites on the internet and match these websites with certain keywords. When you type in a search word or keyword, the Search Engine will display matching website's from it's database. Well known Search Engines are Google, Bing and Yahoo.
Spam
Spam or E-mail Spam is the common name for email which was unsolicited and sent in bulk. The definitions vary and not everybody considders the same email message to be spam. Spam averages 70% to 80% of all e-mail sent. Spammers find email addresses in websites, forums, chatrooms, customer lists and also use virusses to copy your address book. Spamming is illegal in most countries, but because it's hard to determine the identity of a spammer and because a lot of spam is sent from foreign countries it's hard to take legal action against spammers.

Webbrowser
Webbrowsers are computer programs you can use to view websites and related file-types. A webbrowser has to communicate with webservers and retrieve the specified website. Then the website has to be processed accoring to the guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium, also known as the W3C. This is an organisation that sets standards and guidelines the Web. Due to different interpretations of certain rules and guidelines, a website may appear different in different browsers. Webdesigners always have to try to make their websites compatible with most browsers. Commonly used webbrowsers are Microsoft's Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera.
Webhosting
The term webhosting refers to the space on a server where a website is located. A company or individual can rent a fixed amount of space on a server for the purpose of displaying a website. Companies providing this kind of service are called hosting-providers. Hosting providers offer different types of hosting, usually varying in disk-size, allowed amounts of data-traffic and support of different programming languages. Most hosting providers also offer database hosting, usually included in a hosting-package.
There are some companies offering free webhosting, but there's usually a few disadvantages to using them. Some will place advertisements on your website, which is not always desired. Another disadvantage can be that they offer little or no support, and some only give a small amount of data-traffic
